And I thought all that crap about Phoenicians to be so pointless and time consuming.AnimeJunehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18229748454410488167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-87154475153029169362012-11-10T13:10:45.229-07:002012-11-10T13:10:45.229-07:00Crown of Stars is excellent - but LONG. SO FRUSTRATING.AnimeJunehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18229748454410488167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-25858424208982614172012-11-10T13:09:55.918-07:002012-11-10T13:09:55.918-07:00I hope so. Even though THEY NEVER EXPLAIN ALAIN and that broke my heart.AnimeJunehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18229748454410488167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-4782941265711692832012-11-10T13:09:25.739-07:002012-11-10T13:09:25.739-07:00SO TRUE. She seemed like a cartoon who acted to serve the plot rather than as a person.AnimeJunehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18229748454410488167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-77738122422811753272012-11-02T13:05:33.742-06:002012-11-02T13:05:33.742-06:00This one was a bit rough for me. Very true. I could not figure out precisely what bit of history was changed to make this alternate timeline. You apparently got that better than I did. I wanted to know, because I felt like that was probably one of the better things about the book, but oy.

The book picked up towards the end, but, yeah, I came out about the same place you did. I loved her brother though!Christinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00370486039531015541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-79305215156263298792012-10-30T19:17:24.806-06:002012-10-30T19:17:24.806-06:00Perfect review. But I LOVED the characters - and the relationships. I especially loved Cat and Vai (who sizzle just as much in book 2 ;)) Simply put - I got addicted to this series and quickly. I had to read book two immediately following. It's unfortunate that the beginning of the novel puts off so many readers :(

I've been wondering where I should start with her other books and thanks to your recommendation I think I'll go for her Crown of Stars :)

Amy @ Turn the Pagehttp://www.turn-the-page.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-9987788418801335072012-10-30T18:30:53.147-06:002012-10-30T18:30:53.147-06:00I had the same problems as you when it came to the...I had the same problems as you when it came to the first half: way too much contrived info dumping. When the story focused on the characters, the story got good. I ended up liking Cold Magic not so much because of what was on the pages, but on the potential of the story and the characters to be great.

You're going to love the second half of Cold Fire, I think. Ha! I don't think it would be possible to have two more different (and yet still mostly positive) reactions to this book than you and I had. I loved Bee for her ferocious loyalty, even though I did see some of the annoying-ness you mention.

Inexplicably Handsome. LOVE. IT.
