Or embodies conventions so absurd you think you will hate them until you realize that Ivory is too brilliant to trot them out without a very complex purpose. So the heroine's name is "Submit," and I thought "I don't think I can bear to read a novel in which every time the hero calls the heroine by her name he is giving her a hegemonic order," but then Ivory fills the history of the name with psychological complexity, and makes hero profoundly uncomfortable with using the heroine's name.Sycorax Pinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07734754573631273474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-76317476681276743502010-11-02T15:42:10.424-06:002010-11-02T15:42:10.424-06:00Loovly review! I ADORE your reviews and this has to be one of your best yet! I love the MY FAIR LADY lyrics at the beginning. *dies*

Also, I too have recently discovered Judith Ivory and am really digging her books. They are all so unique and beautiful - I've only read Black Silk and Unite my Heart so far. I think I need to track this one down now though...Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00007037401143598285noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-88326605338444952902010-11-01T14:21:01.094-06:002010-11-01T14:21:01.094-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00007037401143598285noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-39476632714471898302010-11-01T09:26:40.279-06:002010-11-01T09:26:40.279-06:00Thanks for the song parody! Story (already a big fan of Pygmalion & My Fair Lady) was wonderfully woven - characters were believable and the romance rang true.infogeniumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01778692472690885748noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-8398275284467926962010-10-31T11:13:55.284-06:002010-10-31T11:13:55.284-06:00So glad you liked it! your reviews are always such...So glad you liked it! your reviews are always such a delight!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348815.post-54646398679974917072010-10-31T10:17:42.012-06:002010-10-31T10:17:42.012-06:00Gaaaah! I just finished reading The Indiscretion and I'm afraid it was a disappointment for me, although it did have some of the qualities you outline here.

I'm now looking forward to reading The Proposal.
